This book was good. It had me guessing. It's about this Deputy named McCall Winchester and how she discovers these bones that are linked to her in a very personal way. It's about her solving the mystery. Unlike the last Intrigue book I read, this one takes place over a week or so, give or take. There are many characters in this book that'll have you guessing. B.J. Daniels is a good writer and it isn't the first time I've read something of her's and enjoyed it. Something this book lacked was romance, the whole point of Harlequin Intrigue books are about a guy saving the girl - but this book didn't have that.
As much as I love a good damsel-in-distress, this was a nice shake, just it wasn't what I had hoped in the romance section. They were both lustful (like all these books) but they just didn't get it on, they had history so I get some of the hesitation but like if you're that attracted to someone - even if it is bad - I don't get why you don't just jump in the sack. Anyways, besides my need for smut and lack there of, this book was interesting. It kept me guessing, I thought I had the killer pegged but then it would turn or there was a different clue and I would guess someone else and then someone else etc, I had many theories. The other thing I seriously didn't like was the ending. It kind of left it open, like a cliffhanger, even though it is a standstill book. It makes you guess at the end, I even went on and double checked it was a standstill because it just didn't seem finished. Sure the crime was solved, but it kind of wasn't. (You'll know what I mean when you read it) cause its like, "really, that's it, what about this and this and this?"
I want to know what Pepper had planned or why Buzz did what he did. And at the end, Pepper was talking to a new introduced character and there was seriously three pages left. Overall, I did enjoy the mystery in this book and it was well written, but there was little romance, unanswered questioned, and it lacked the Harlequin Intrigue damsel-in-distress theme. I would let anyone read it as this book wasn't as graphic as some books. I rate this book a 5/10.

The discovery of human bones not far from the Winchester Ranch rocked the small town and its deputy sheriff, McCall Winchester. The grave held answers to questions that had long haunted her, and nothing would stop her from getting them...not even the return of Luke Crawford. Luke wasn't about to be pushed out of McCall's life again. Not when she needed him the most. The blue-eyed boy was now a devastating cowboy who knew what he wanted--and that was to keep McCall safe. Not an easy thing to do when her investigation stirred up a hornet's nest of trouble. But nothing would stop him from taking this Winchester as his bride!
