This is a Harlequin Intrigue book that I had on my shelf. I read this book in between two books in a series as a break. I liked this book but it isn't in my top pick of Intrigue books. I liked the character development for the two main characters throughout the book though. Alissa Wyatt is a forensic analyst that always followed protocol; never staggering from the known. Tucker McDermott is a bad boy, one flinger, hot head with a temper. Tucker believed he could never fully love a woman - not to what she deserved. He hated staying in the same spot for too long, he never settled. Alissa learned to open her heart again after shielding it for so long, and Tucker learned that all it takes is one person to change everything he's ever known.
One thing I didn't like about this book is that it felt a lot of open questions. I think that the problem at the end of this book is to continue the Bear Claw Creek Crime Lab series. The whole point of Harlequin Intrigue is to be a one-and-done book, to pick up and put down as you please. So I didn't like the huge unanswered question that loomed. I also found this book kind of all over the place. There was one person then another person targeting more than one person and it bounced from one to the other and at times I had to think about it.
Overall I picked up and put down this book, it didn't fully grab my attention like some of the Intrigue books I have read in the past.
I rate it 5/10. There aren't a lot of curse words but there is a lot of sexual content - as usual with these books so I put it as a 14+ book.

Time was Running Out... Bear Claw Creek's young girls were disappearing and forensics expert Alissa Wyatt was in way over her head. Now her only choice was to partner with Detective Tucker McDermott - the very same man she'd sworn to keep her distance from.
But suddenly, the tables turned. Alissa became a madman's next target - and her only hope to stay alive lay within the safety of Tucker's strong arms. As the danger mounted, the killer on her trail was nothing compared to the feelings provoked by reuniting with Tucker...or the consequences she'd face if she walked away once again.
